About the Department of Natural Resources (DNR):
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources protects, enhances, preserves, and wisely uses natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the benefit of Indiana's citizens through professional leadership, management, and education. The Indiana State Parks system manages 24 state parks, seven small satellite locations, eight reservoir properties, two state forest recreation areas, and two off-road riding areas. Collectively, Indiana State Park properties manage more than 2,000 buildings, 700 miles of trails, 636 hotel/lodge rooms, 17 marinas, 75 launching ramps, 17 swimming pools, 15 beaches, 7,701 campsites, more than 200 shelters, 160 or so playgrounds and 150 cabins.
Role Overview :
This position functions as the Assistant Property Manager for East Fork State Fish Hatchery and is vital for the operations of the largest state fish hatchery in Indiana. This hatchery has statewide fish production responsibilities and stocked fish from this hatchery increases fishing opportunities for diverse fish stocking needs as directed by fish management programs for public waters. This position plays an essential role in the creation of recreational opportunities throughout Indiana with important revenue sources for the State and Division. In the absence of the Property Manager, or as delegated by the Property Manager, this position has accountability for managerial, supervisory, administrative, and fish culture responsibilities at this DFW fish hatchery. Incumbent applies professional scientific knowledge and techniques in planning, conducting and evaluating Department programs to manage and enhance Indiana's natural resources. Work includes writing and implementing work plans, preparing and administering property budgets, administering the property inventory system, and participating in information and education activities on the property and throughout the State (tours, presentations, etc.). Other duties include supervision, training, evaluation and discipline of subordinate property personnel, administering the DNR's safety program and responsibility for the production of game fish to reach fish management objectives.
Responsibilities:
• Develop fish production plans
• Coordinates and provides oversight of fish spawning
• Establishes pond production and/or tank culture schedules and feeding programs
• Completes or reviews fish feed, drug treatment and chemical orders
• Coordinates fish disease diagnostic testing for fish hatcheries
• Oversees fish quality assessment program
• Assists with the maintenance and repair of hatchery buildings and grounds as necessary
• Monitors for water quality and fish disease problems; participates in 24 hour on call monitoring of hatchery
• Ensures compliance with fish drug programs, aquatic herbicide program, and NPDES requirements
• Assists with related activities such as recruitment and retention programs, fish hatchery tours, State Fair or other hatchery activities as necessary
• Understands and management complex electrical/mechanical/computerized systems for water recirculation systems including UV disinfection and microprocessor monitoring
• Serve as facility safety coordinator.
Salary Statement :
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
