Job Description

As a School Van Driver, you’ll provide personalized service for students facing unique educational barriers—offering safe, supportive transport in small-group settings where meaningful connections can thrive. This role goes beyond driving—it's about making a daily impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate Type III vehicles (minivan or 10 passenger van) in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during transportation, including loading and unloading students, securing children in their seats (if  needed), and enforcing safety rules.
  • Maintain a clean and well-maintained vehicle, performing basic vehicle checks before and after trips.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents, maintaining a professional and positive demeanor.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety protocols.
  • Complete and submit required paperwork.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable to changes in schedules and routes, filling in as needed for regular drivers.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the varying needs of the school district, including early mornings, afternoons, and occasional field trips.
  • Support students during arrival and dismissal, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Provide assistance to students with special needs and effectively manage challenging behaviors with patience and professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years old. 
  • Must currently hold a valid Minnesota (MN) Driver’s License.
  • Minimum of 6 months holding a valid U.S. driver’s license (license may be from any state).
  • Clean driving record with no serious violations (e.g., DUI, reckless driving).
  • Ability to pass all required background checks, DOT physical, and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Prior experience operating vehicles, especially within school transportation, is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with students and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage student behavior in a calm, positive, and effective manner.
  • Capable of working independently while adhering to established procedures and instructions.
  • Dependable, punctual, and flexible, with availability to respond to schedule changes or work on short notice.
  • Ability to communicate in conversational English.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift and assist students with special needs, if necessary.
  • Ability to sit for long periods and operate a vehicle safely.
  • Capability to perform basic vehicle checks, such as checking tire pressure, fluid levels, etc .

Driving Qualifications: Must not have been cited for any of the following violations in the past 36 months:

  • Reckless, negligent, or careless driving.
  • Any drug- or alcohol-related driving offense (including refusal to submit to a chemical test).
  • Fleeing or eluding law enforcement.
  • Failure to stop and identify after an accident (hit and run).
  • Vehicular assault, negligent homicide, or manslaughter.
  • Drag racing or racing on roadways.
  • Felony involving a motor vehicle (e.g., theft).
  • Driving with a suspended or revoked license or registration.
  • Speeding more than 20 mph over the limit.

Additionally, not eligible if have any of the following within the past 36 months:

  • Two or more at-fault accidents.
  • One at-fault accident combined with a moving violation.
  • More than two moving violations.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting pay $18 - $20/hr with a 6 hour minimum schedule.
  • Earned Sick and Safe Time paid leave.

Location & Shift Times:

  • Training Dates - August 19, 2025 or August 20, 2025 from 9 AM - 3 PM (must commit to one of the dates). Make-up date August 28th from 9 - 3 PM.
  • School Start Date - September 2, 2025.
  • Split shift schedule, with typical route times between 6:30 AM – 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM – 5:00 PM.
  • Shifts are Monday through Friday (must commit to five days a week).
  • Locations -  routes are throughout the seven county Twin Cities area (Drivers may be granted the option to park their work van at their residence, provided they have a suitable and secure location for the vehicle. This privilege is contingent upon maintaining satisfactory job performance and may be revoked if performance concerns arise.)
