Job Description

The Company

Miso is transforming the restaurant industry with Flippy, an AI-powered kitchen robot that automates dangerous fry station operations. A leader in kitchen automation, AI, and robotics, Miso has raised over $150 million via equity crowdfunding and successfully installed Flippy, our flagship product, at Tier 1  global restaurant  brands.

With a new leadership team, including a CEO with a track record of successful exits, and a strategic investment from Ecolab, Miso is poised for scale. The company is building a world-class team. We offers company equity, flexible vacation, comprehensive benefits, a 401K, accelerated growth opportunities, and free snacks cooked by Flippy, our in house chef.

The Role

Miso is on a mission to revolutionize the commercial kitchen through advanced automation and AI. We’re looking for a hands-on, high-impact Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead the design, development, and delivery of our next-generation hardware products.

This is a critical leadership role at the intersection of mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll help scale innovative hardware/software systems from prototype to production, improving product velocity and building robust, manufacturable solutions that customers love.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and grow a high-performing mechanical engineering team, including full-time employees and contractors.
  • Own the mechanical design strategy — from architecture through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and transition to manufacturing.
  • Drive hands-on problem solving for complex electromechanical systems (think robotics, automation, and integrated devices).
  • Partner closely with software, electrical, manufacturing, and product teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Champion design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost as we scale.
  • Help shape our product development processes — balancing speed, rigor, and innovation.
  • Engage with external partners, vendors, and suppliers to support development and production.

What we’re looking for

  • Mechanical engineering leadership experience in a startup or fast-paced tech company (robotics, industrial automation, autonomous vehicles, consumer electronics, medical devices, aerospace, or similar).
  • A strong track record of building and shipping complex hardware/software products — ideally electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical work with people and process leadership .
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical design, prototyping, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Experience guiding teams through ambiguity, fast development cycles, and scaling challenges.
  • Strong collaboration skills. You know how to work effectively across disciplines (SW, EE, manufacturing, product).
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Enthusiastic about being on site daily at our Lab  in the Pasadena area of Los Angeles

Why Miso Robotics?

  • Be part of a mission-driven startup transforming the future of food service through automation and AI.
  • Collaborate with passionate engineers, designers, and product leaders.
  • Build novel technology that integrates robotics, AI, and IoT in real-world environments.
  • Help scale hardware that’s making an impact today.
Compensation

$150,000-$200,000 + Equity + Benefits

The stated compensation range reflects only the targeted base salary range for candidates residing in the Los Angeles Metro area and excludes additional earnings such as bonus and benefits. If your salary requirements fall outside of the range, we still encourage you to apply.

At Miso Robotics, we are committed to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace where every team member is valued and respected. We believe that diversity in our team drives innovation and creativity, which is why we strive to create a welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status.
