JOB SUMMARY

Principal Investigators of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Coordination Network in Undergraduate Biology Education (RCN-UBE) project Sarah Rose Cavanagh (Simmons University) and Michele Lemons (Assumption University) are seeking a part-time administrative assistant (AA). Towards this goal, the administrative assistant will be asked to work on various administrative tasks to support the work of the grant, including event management, website management, working with documents and data, drafting flyers and digital signage, attending Zoom meetings, etc. The AA will report to Dr. Sarah Cavanagh, Senior Associate Director of Teaching and Learning in the Center for Faculty Excellence at Simmons University.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assisting with virtual and in-person event planning, including room reservations, catering, and processing paperwork for stipends and travel
  • Performing data collection and entry, and records management
  • Drafting and distributing marketing and communication materials such as flyers and digital signage for events, email newsletters, etc.
  • Maintaining our network's website maintenance (the website has a user interface, programming skills are not required); posting materials to website for public viewing

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extremely comfortable with technology (Google Suite, Zoom, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Professional interest in the science of teaching and learning
  • Bachelor's Degree

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The AA in this position will be expected to work part-time in a mostly remote capacity. However, some in-person meetings would be beneficial at Simmons' campus in the Fenway of Boston. Priority will be given to candidates who can attend an on-site full-day meeting on May 12, 2026.

Principal Investigators of a National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Coordination Network in Undergraduate Biology Education (RCN-UBE) project Sarah Rose Cavanagh (Simmons University) and Michele Lemons (Assumption University) are seeking a part-time administrative assistant (AA) to work collectively ~410 hours ($17/hour) during the calendar year to earn approximately $7,000 over 12 months (paid out in three installments: 1) at start of work; 2) when approximately 205 hours have been completed; 3) end of work for the academic year). This is a flexible position that will have periods of higher and lower activity. For example, we predict more work will be needed in in the immediate lead-up to May 2026 and less the summer after. More precise expectations will be provided prior to the start of the position.

There may also be an opportunity for this position to be renewed for another year or up to two more years.

This is not required for this position but remains an option if the candidate wishes to engage in the pedagogical work proposed in this grant.
